lecture

On October 3, the Barcelona School of Economics celebrated the opening of the 2019-20 academic year with a lecture and reception for new Master's students at UAB Bellaterra Campus. The speaker was Professor Massimo Motta (ICREA-UPF and BSE), who discussed "Why digital markets don't work as they should, and what we can do about it."

Facebook, Google, Whatsapp... and what to do about them

In his lecture, Prof. Motta gave an overview of the problems in digital markets and told students that economic research contributes to identify policy initiatives which may promote competition and openness and avoid abusive behavior by dominant firms such as Apple, Facebook, and Google.

After the lecture, students and members of the faculty and staff enjoyed an exhibition of "castellers" (human castles) by the UAB Ganàpies castle team. The display of this Catalan tradition symbolizes the intense teamwork students will engage in during the course of their Master's at the BSE.
